Fan identification guide & FAQ.
Identification: Follow these steps to identify your current fan:
Step 1: Determine your diameter (there are three methods to determine the diameter)
On a fan with an even number of blades measure straight across from tip to tip.
For fans with either an even or odd number of blades, measure from the blade tip to the center of the hub and multiply by 2.
For all fans, measure the diameter of the hub. Measure the length of one blade from tip to base (just above the root, where the blade meets the hub). Add the hub diameter measurement and twice the blade length to determine the fan diameter.
Note: If there are no blades left to measure, then measure the shroud and subtract a suitable clearance distance.
Step 2: Count the number of blades
Step 3: How many blades can the hub hold?
Step 4: Determining the type or series of blades
Depending on the blade series, the blade name may or may not be imprinted on the blade. Look for something like 4ZR or 6WL. 4 is the type, Z is the hub style series and R is for Right hand rotation, L left.
Step 5: Determining the pitch angle of the blades
Pitch Angle. Depending on the blade series, the pitch angle may be found imprinted on the blade in a variety of locations, like H series. On Z and W this is set by the pitch pin type or location inside the hub.
Step 6: Determining what material your blades are made of.
Blade Material. Determine what material the fan blades are made of by checking the molded dial located near the base of the blade. Common ones are PAG or PPG.
Step 7: Determine how the fan is mounted.
Mounting Options.
Straight bore, often with set screws and key way
Flange mount, pilot hole and bolt circle, measure hole(better yet boss on machine) precisely with calipers and bolt circle diameter and hole size. Example: 3.000 bore with ½” holes on 5.5” BCD.
Bushing type. If so, examine the bushing for type and shaft diameter markings. Example, P1 1 ⅛” or SH ⅝”. Next, determine the boss/bushing location as described in the bushing orientation ID photo. AS/BS? AR/BR?

Can I get spare blades?
Of course.
Is there a model number on my fan?
Look at the fan hub to find a white adhesive ID tag, some start with ASM, others the diameter. If the tag missing, not to worry, if you need help with the above steps just give us a call and we can help.
Why do your blades for sale look longer than mine?
We buy blades uncut directly from the manufacturer. Most blades are cut after molding to make a fan to the OEM specifications. We can trim them to your specifications for an additional fee.
My blade says 4ZR 111815/B. Will the one you sell me fit?
Yes and no, it will need to be trimmed to your specifications. Please read step 1 of “Fan Identification guide” above.
My blade says 4ZR 111815/A. You sold me 111815/B, is it the wrong part?!
No. The 111815/B is just a mold ID number and has no bearing, 4ZR is the only part that matters.
If my blade says P4ZR, can I buy a 4ZR?
Yes and No. 4ZRs are made by a different manufacturer. They are interchangeable up to a certain point. You should only mix brands if you can put blades across from each other to maintain balance. As an example: on a 7 blade hub you can’t put blades across from each other, but buy 3 for a 9 blade and it balances out.
The same logic is true if you have a 4ZR blade and you are looking at purchasing the P4ZRs.
How long does it take to fix my fan?
We can often ship the same day if we can match your parts or design a replacement using the fan design software.
Do I have to worry about balance?
It depends. For high speed applications the fan should be balanced, we offer this service. You could buy a complete fan, or send in the hub for trim and balance. If you ask we can weigh the blades to get the best matched set, then we trim just the blades and ship for a quick repair.
